NABARD Employees’ Co-operative Credit Society: bringing member services online while keeping the core.

Context The modernisation What was delivered Credits and boundaries

The Society’s core system had been built for internal use on a server disconnected from the public internet. Staff could work with it, but members had no direct way to check balances, view ledgers or manage a fixed deposit online.

The solution did not begin by discarding the legacy system. We built a cloud service layer around the retained core, migrated the required data and created member-facing web and application experiences.

Data migration, cloud service layer, website, member application, administration

The core system held the truth. It was not built for members.

Replacing a working financial system creates risk. Leaving members without digital access creates a different kind of risk and a growing service burden. The architecture had to separate those decisions.

The modernisation

Data and integration

The relevant data was migrated and made available through a cloud layer connected to the retained system. The aim was to create controlled digital access without pretending the legacy estate could be replaced in one move.

Member access

Members could log in to view balances and ledgers, see fixed deposits approaching maturity and complete renewal actions online.

Public and administrative experiences

A website, application and supporting administration workflows gave the Society a usable digital service rather than a read-only information page.

What was delivered

  • Legacy-system assessment
  • Data migration
  • Cloud service layer
  • Public website
  • Member application
  • Secure member login
  • Balance and ledger access
  • Fixed-deposit maturity visibility
  • Online fixed-deposit renewal
  • Administrative workflows

Reflection

Legacy modernisation is rarely one dramatic replacement. The more responsible move is often to isolate the parts that still work, create a service layer around them and improve the experience in stages. This project is a good example of that approach.

Credits and boundaries

The client is the NABARD Employees’ Co-operative Credit Society, a separate co-operative entity serving employees. This page does not describe an engagement with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development itself.
