Mahindra Industrial Learning for You, or MILU, explored how industrial skills could be taught through a digital platform without reducing practical learning to a sequence of videos.

Design & Code supported the engagement across business and digital strategy, feasibility, research, platform development and interactive training modules. AR and VR were used where they could help a learner understand an industrial machine or process through guided practice.

Industrial knowledge is physical.

Many digital learning products are designed around content consumption. Industrial training asks for something else. The learner needs to understand sequence, safety, equipment and cause and effect. A useful platform had to create room for practice and assessment, not only presentation.

Strategy and feasibility

We helped examine the business case, likely platform cost and the role a certification programme could play. Research also covered how the experience should fit Mahindra’s brand and the expectations of industrial learners.

The product combined conventional learner and certification workflows with interactive modules. For suitable industrial tasks, AR and VR experiences could demonstrate a machine, guide the learner through a process and provide a safer environment for early practice.

Reflection

Immersive technology is useful when it gives the learner access to something that a page or video cannot. That test kept the feature set grounded. The technology served the training task, rather than becoming the reason for the project.
